Teacher-Librarian

About

Sandra McLarnon is a first generation Canadian born to Irish parents. She lives in the small town of Fergus, Ontario where she and her husband, Jim (a Groundwater Resource Engineer), raised their two daughters and son. Each of their children, their partners, and 3 young grandsons bring immense joy to their lives.

Sandra earned an honours B.A. in Sociology from the University of Windsor, and a Bachelor of Education from York University. Both of these university campuses provided fertile soil for developing an understanding of equity, inclusion, and diversity.

In 2014 Sandra began working as a Teacher-Librarian, in a brand new school. A critical part of Sandra’s teaching practice is to help students develop a foundation of knowledge about the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (unsdgs). Students are given opportunities to marry their growing understanding of the unsdgs with the tools in the ‘Library & Makerspace’. By default, students engage in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) skills as they play, design and build. An emphasis on engineering is supported by an organization called “engineers of tomorrow”. Sandra has two engineers-in-residence (her husband had no choice).
